Finding a RuneScape private server worth your time takes longer than it should. We have reviewed every server on this list manually, then let real player votes set the order. OSRS, semi-custom, and custom servers, sorted by community activity, not by who paid the most.

RSPS stands for RuneScape Private Server. We have been tracking these independently developed game servers since 2002, when the scene was a handful of clones running on basement servers. Today it is dozens of distinct projects, each with its own engine, content, and economy. RSPS projects emulate the RuneScape experience, often with custom features, faster progression, and active communities. Some stay close to the original Old School RuneScape formula. Others rebuild the game with custom bosses, unique skills, and gameplay modes that go beyond what Jagex offers.
Most RSPS servers are run by indie developers, sometimes a single person, sometimes a small team. The best ones tend to share three traits: free to play, updated weekly or more often, and far more responsive to player feedback than the mainstream game. Whether you are chasing nostalgia, looking for a faster pace, or want to try something new, an RSPS lets you experience RuneScape on your own terms.
RSPS.org is a curated RSPS List that has been helping players discover active and high-quality RuneScape private servers since 2002. Unlike most toplists, position on this RSPS Toplist is determined by votes alone. We do not sell top placement, we do not weight rankings for advertisers, and we do not let pay-to-win listings dominate the front page.
Every vote on RSPS.org passes through IP and timestamp verification before it counts. Server owners can connect their game directly to our vote callback system, so each vote ties back to a real in-game player and gets rewarded automatically. Bots and duplicate traffic are filtered out before they can move the rankings.
Rankings update continuously based on live player votes. We have actively maintained this anti-manipulation policy for over two decades to keep the RSPS List useful for players, not server owners.
After reviewing thousands of RSPS launches over the years, we sort servers into three types based on how far they stray from the original RuneScape formula.
OSRS servers stick closely to the Old School RuneScape formula. The combat, skills, and quests feel familiar, with maybe a few quality-of-life tweaks like faster XP rates or instant banking. If you grew up on RuneScape and want that exact experience without the grind, OSRS servers are the closest match.
Semi-Custom servers keep the OSRS foundation but layer on extras: custom bosses, new gear tiers, unique pets, or expanded skills. The core game still feels like RuneScape, but you will find content that pushes past the official roadmap.
Custom servers rebuild the experience from the ground up. New combat systems, original skills, custom worlds, and gameplay modes that did not exist in the original game. They often look and feel like an entirely different game.
There is no single best type, only the one that fits how you want to play.
Our RSPS Toplist rankings are driven by real player votes and refreshed through a monthly voting reset. We introduced this system years ago after watching the same dead servers sit at the top of competing lists indefinitely while new projects had no chance to surface. The reset means the RSPS List always reflects what is popular right now, not what was popular a decade ago.
Sort the list by this month (the default view, which rewards consistent activity), this week (servers gaining momentum right now), or all time (community giants with deep long-term support).
Behind the scenes, every vote runs through IP-based verification, callback validation for participating servers, and rate limiting before counting. Verified votes count, automated traffic does not. The live numbers in our stats panel reflect only votes that passed those checks.
Beyond category, filter by gameplay tag to find a server that fits how you actually play. Browse PvP, PvM, Ironman Modes, EOC, Pre-EOC, or Mobile. Tags stack with categories, so a Pre-EOC PvP server or a custom Ironman setup is one click away.
Every server on the list has its own profile page with screenshots, the owner's description, player reviews, vote history, and direct links to their website and Discord. Newly added servers get their own dedicated section so they can compete for visibility instead of getting buried under long-established communities.
In our experience, the strongest predictor of an RSPS worth playing is not its trailer or marketing. It is the active player count and how recently the server was updated. Servers with regular updates almost always outlast quieter ones, no matter how flashy the launch looks. The vote counts on this RSPS Toplist reflect real player engagement, so a server sitting at the top usually has a community behind it.
Next, think about what you actually want to do. PvM grinders should look for servers with strong boss content and active raids. PvP fans should filter by servers known for clan wars and tournaments. Ironman players should look for proper Ironman modes with their own leaderboards.
Finally, join the Discord before committing serious time. A healthy RSPS Discord shows real activity: players asking questions, staff responding quickly, and updates posted often. After 24+ years of watching this scene, the Discord vibe is the single best signal we have found of whether a server will still exist in six months. Newer projects also deserve attention, so you can browse recently launched RSPS servers if you prefer being part of a community from day one.
Players have trusted the RSPS.org list since 2002 because we apply consistent standards every server has to meet:
A reliable RSPS Toplist saves players from joining dead or low-quality servers. New projects launch every week, and most of them disappear within months. The numbers in our stats panel are pulled live from the verified vote database, not estimated or rounded.
